Career Counseling for Students & Graduates from Third Countries

Are you a third-country national planning to work or settle in Austria?
If you’re from a country that is neither a member of the EEA nor the EU, there are a few additional steps you’ll need to take before you can work in Austria. To help you navigate the legal requirements and get your career off to a good start, the Career Center, in collaboration with the AMS (Public Employment Service), offers free career counseling sessions for students and graduates of the University of Vienna. The counseling sessions can be conducted in English or German.

Registration

You can book an online or in-person appointment. Feel free to use the text box when booking your appointment to let us know what you’d like to discuss. To help the counselor prepare for the session, please upload your current resume (it doesn’t have to be perfect) when you register. Here are some tips for creating a resume. New appointments are added every month.

Your advisor will review your resume in advance to learn more about your background. You also have the opportunity to ask questions in the comment field of the registration form before your appointment. You’ll have 50 minutes to discuss your questions with your advisor.

Decide whether you’d like to meet with your advisor in person or online. Select one of the available appointments and sign up. You’ll need to upload a copy of your resume, so please have it ready. New appointments are added in the middle of each month. So if you don’t see any available appointments, check back next month.

The coaching session is designed to help you gain more clarity about your career goals, and your counselor can provide you with helpful resources as needed. She will support you in your decision, but she cannot make it for you. Your counselor can give you an overview of the legal requirements for work and residence permits, but she is not a lawyer and does not provide legal advice. She can refer you to resources where you can obtain legal advice on issues related to residence and work permits.

What I’ve learned is that there’s no single “perfect” career path!
